Select the first class to play as. We recommend you pick a class that compliments your race to start with. A giant should consider doing a warrior based class, for example.

It is very important that you understand the remorting system used by Abliss. Once you reach level 100 in your class you will receive a number of random skills to keep permanently. You'll then remort into another class and begin it at level 1 with the skills you've kept from all prior remorts. Choose wisely...


Bard
A bard is a wandering minstrel, adept in the ways of magic and thieving. A bard must be holding an instrument in order to use their spells. A bard is able to charm mobs with their songs and even have the powerful lure skill which will force a mob into the same room with the bard. Bards command the powerful 'mute' spell, which prevents casters from uttering their spells. Since a bard is a wandering adventurer, he has some skill in using a weapon, fairly close to what a thief can use. Bards are the legend makers of the realm of Rifts.

Monks are a cross between a warrior and a psionicist. They have many special features that separates them from the other classes. Monks cannot wear any type of bulky armor, though a monk's ac goes up with every level. Monks also do far more damage with their bare hands than by wielding a weapon. Every 5 levels a monk's open hand damage increases. Monks are the only class capable of stunning an enemy with but a touch, and even more impressive is their deadly quivering palm skill, which can kill enemies in one blow.

Necromancers are practitioners of magic whose focus is on evil, death and the monstrous. Necromancers have numerous unique qualities. First, since a necromancer calls upon the forces of darkness for their powers, they must always remain evil. There is no such thing as a good or neutral necromancer, for to be anything but evil, a necromancer loses all of their powers. Another power of the necromancer is that if the necromancer is evil enough and powerful enough, undead will not attack them. Necromancers have many unique spells they can call upon. The staple of the necromancer is the animate dead spell, with it a necromancer can command an army of undead following the necromancers every wish. Necromancers also have the unholy transform lich spell in which they can leave their frail mortal body and become an eternally evil and damned undead of great power.

A ninja is a special class that specializes in stealth, disguise and assassination. A ninja is a master of the martial arts and combat. As a ninja gets more experience they even gain a few mystic powers such as mental invis (aka sun shih k'an chien chih) and biofeedback (aka chi-gung). The paladin is a holy knight, dedicated to destroying evil. A paladin must adhere to certain alignment guidelines. Namely, a paladin MUST be of good alignment, and if at any time, a paladin drop too low, and becomes non-good, they immediately lose all their spells. Once a paladin loses his paladinhood, he must reattain his goodness to regain his abilities. Paladins automatically know what alignment all creatures and players are, are immune to disease, and can call upon his/her holy warhorse when of high enough ability. An old saying in the land of Rifts is that, "When in the depths of hell, No other class compares to a paladin".
